What was supposed to be Jo Kanamori and Aaken’s fourth collaboration won’t see the day. The project was to make new music on a pre-exisiting one – Sibelius’ Vapautettu Kuningatar (The Captive Queen) a cantata for chorus and orchestra itself based on a poem by Paavo Cajander that Kanamori used for his choreography. The challenge was to create new music without changing the choreography, whilst following the structure and tone of Sibelius’ work to the dot.
However after many attempts, it appeared that the challenge was impossible to meet so the collaboration was dropped and the original music retained. Regrets éternels!
